Join us for National AccessAbility Week events for students and employees May 28 & 30

National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) is May 26 – June 1, and George Brown College is celebrating with two events — one for students and one for employees and faculty — on May 28 and 30. 

“We look forward to having you join us at our May 28 student event and our May 30 event for staff and faculty,” said Yin Brown, Manager of Accessibility, Inclusion and AODA Compliance. “Together, we can do amazing things to build an inclusive and accessible George Brown College.” 

The week is all about highlighting the contributions of people with disabilities and championing ongoing efforts to build a more inclusive and accessible society. The Office of Anti-Racism, Equity and Human Rights Services is hosting the following online and interactive events:

GBC Accessible Services and Resources for Students

Tuesday, May 28, noon – 1:30 p.m. 
Student event 

Students will learn about supports available to them from Accessible Learning Services, the Library Learning Commons, and Counselling services. A panel of students will also share their experiences in accessing these services. Join us to ask questions and learn about how the college can support your success.

Universal Design for Learning & Accessibility

Thursday, May 30, noon – 1:30 p.m. 
Employee event 

Learn how to proactively plan for inclusion and accessibility through a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework. Find out how UDL can help employees and faculty better support students with and without disabilities.

AccessAbility at GBC

Actions to improve accessibility at George Brown are happening year-round, guided by our Accessibility and Inclusion Multi-Year Plan, the AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) Accessibility policy, and the AODA Committee, which tracks progress and promotes accessibility best practices.
